Instructions
1
RACING RULES
1.1 All races will be
governed by the “rules” as defined in the current “Racing Rules of
Sailing 2005-2008”, The ILCA, and as amended herein.
2.1 The RC will announce if
they decide to cancel the day on VHF Channel 72 at 45 minutes before the
scheduled first races of the day.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Laser competitors must
wear life vests.
3.2 To be scored, a
competitor must have: (1) Completed and signed a registration form, (2) Paid
the entry fee. Drop dead entry
time: 1100 Saturday, June 28 at the
OGYC front desk.

RACING AREA & SCHEDULE
4.1
Races shall be held ¼ NM south of Newfoundland Reef
4.2
Races shall take Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29
4.3
Start on Saturday is 1230 hours and 1100 hours Sunday.
4.4
The last start will before 1630 on Saturday and 1530 on Sunday.
4.5
All competitors shall check in with the RC prior to racing.
4.6
A competitor withdrawing from a race or not intending to compete in any further
races for the day shall inform the RC.
4.7
The RC will attempt to run as many races as possible each day.

MARKS & COURSES
5.1
Marks will be small inflatables except for the start pin that will carry a
yellow flag.
5.2 Courses will be
announced verbally. The Course Diagram on the back of this page shows the
courses, including the order and direction in which marks are to be passed.
They may also be displayed on the RC boat.
5.3 Winward offset and
leeward gates may be used.
6.1 There will be separate
starts for Radial, Standard and Ideal 18s, unless specified verbally by the RC.
6.2 The starting line shall
be between a yellow flag on the RC boat and the start pin.
6.3 The finish line shall be
between a red flag on the RC boat and an adjacent mark on the opposite side
from the starting mark, unless otherwise announced or the course is shortened.

STARTING PROCEDURES & RECALLS
7.1 Appendix Q -
Sound-Signal Starting System will be used, modified to a 2-minute sequence. The
2-minute signal is the Warning, and the 1-minute signal is the Preparatory.
7.2 Prior to the warning,
the RC may invoke the 1-minute I-flag (Rule 30.1, around-the-ends), Z-flag (Rule
30.2, 20% penalty) or Black Flag (Rule 30.3, DSQ) rules by flag or announcement.
7.3 The RC will attempt to
hail boats that are OCS, but not hearing a hail will not exonerate a boat.
7.4 A general recall will be
signaled by repeated short signals from the RC boat.
A new Warning will be given as soon as possible.

TIME LIMITS
8.1 The time limit for the
first boat in each race is 40 minutes.
8.2 Any boat finishing after
10 minutes of the first finisher shall be scored DNF.
8.3 No boat may start later than 3 minutes after the starting signal.

SCORING & QUALIFICATION
9.1 A low point scoring
system shall be used according to RRS A4., except as specified below.
9.2
A minimum of 3 races will be needed for scoring the Regatta.
9.3 DNF, OCS or TLE will be
awarded 2 points more than the points earned by the last finisher in that race.
9.4
Series scoring will be on the basis total number of points during the regatta.
9.5 Daily scoring by the
Race Committee is unofficial.
9.6 For laser racers
competing in the event, each individual race completed will count toward your
GLR season qualification. Only a
“Q” will be entered, not your score.

PENALTIES & PROTESTS/REDRESS
10.1 Rules 44.1 & 44.2
are modified to require a 1-turn penalty including one tack and one gybe.
10.2 Protests must be
announced to the RC at the end of each race.
10.3 The RC may file
protests when it observes a rule violation if no yacht accepts a penalty or
protests.
10.4 On the water
arbitration will be offered on the RC boat at the conclusion of all races.
If arbitration fails, a protest may be lodged as prescribed below.
10.5 A protest or request
for redress must be put in writing and delivered to the RC within an hours after
the Race Committee is back at its mooring.
10.6
A hearing will be held at OGYC as soon as possible.
11 PRIZES
11.1
Awards will be received by the first three in Radial, Standard and Ideal 18
Divisions.
